SpiceJet appoints Sanjeev Kapoor as COO

Budget carrier SpiceJet Thursday announced the appointment of aviation industry consultant Sanjeev Kapoor as chief operating officer effective from next month, nearly three months after its chief executive officer Neil Mills resigned.
Kapoor was earlier special advisor to the board of GMG Airlines, Bangladesh and has also been associated with consulting firms such as Bain & Company and Boston Consulting Group.
According to a company release, Kapoor was responsible for productivity improvement, cost control, customer satisfaction and service quality at GMG Airlines.
Kapoor's entry into the budget carrier follows the resignation of Niel Mills in July. Prior to Mills' resignation the airline's chief commercial officer Harish Moideen Kutty had also put in his papers.
Mills had been with the company since 2010 and was hired by Kalanithi Maran, the promoter of Sun Group, after buying a majority stake in the airline from non-resident Indian Bhulo Kansagra.
Kutty had resigned just days after the airline announced a loss of Rs.191 crore in 2012-13. The company is expected to declare the second quarter results on Nov 7, 2013.
The company had reported a 10 percent fall in net profit for the first quarter of this fiscal, which stood at Rs.50.55 crore from Rs.62.44 crore in the corresponding quarter of 2012-13.
SpiceJet had the fourth largest domestic market share of 17.3 percent in September after IndiGo, Air India and Jet Airways.

Petrol price cut by Rs. 1.15/litre, diesel price hiked by 50 paise/litre

NEW DELHI: Petrol price was today cut by Rs 1.15 a litre, the second reduction in rates in a month, while diesel prices were raised by 50 paise per litre.
The price changes announced by oil companies are excluding local sales tax or VAT and will be effective midnight tonight, oil companies announced. Petrol price in Delhi will be cut by Rs 1.38 to Rs 71.02 per litre, while it will cost Rs 78.04 a litre in Mumbai as against Rs 79.49 currently. The reduction comes on back of a Rs 3.05 per litre (Rs 3.66 after including VAT) cut in rates effected from October 1.
Prior to that, petrol prices had since June risen seven times, totalling Rs 10.80 per litre, excluding VAT (Rs 13.06 after including state tax) as the rupee depreciated sharply against the rupee.
In a parallel move, diesel price was hiked by 50 paise, excluding VAT, in line with the January decision of the government allowing oil companies freedom to raise prices in small doses every month to wipe out mounting losses.
The diesel price in Delhi has been hiked by 56 paise to Rs 53.10 per litre while it would cost Rs 60.08 in Mumbai from tomorrow as compared to Rs 59.46 currently.
Today's hike is the 10th since the January 17 and most of the losses on diesel sales should have been wiped out by now to make the fuel market priced. But the fall in rupee, around 25 per cent since April, has worsened the situation and losses mounted to Rs 14.50 per litre.
However, the recent firming of rupee against US dollar and monthly increases have trimmed these losses to Rs 9.58. Diesel rates have risen by a cumulative Rs 5.95 this year.

Pay Rs500 and get an Aadhaar: IndiaNews' sting operation

In what appears to be the tip of an iceberg, the sting operation by IndiaNews highlights dangers of giving 'Aadhaar' to illegal immigrants that would help them to get all benefits meant for Indian citizens

IndiaNews, a Hindi TV news channel has unearthed a scam where anyone can buyAadhaar or the unique identity number by paying just Rs500. According to a sting operation carried out by the channel in Noida, one person Samir (who is allegedly an employee of Smart Chip Ltd) used to provide Aadhaar letter without taking any proof from the applicant.

The report says Samir was issuing Aadhaar letters to even non-Indians on payment ofRs500 or more.

As per Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) the person enrolling for its UID number scheme, has to either submit proof of identity (POI) or address (POA), date of birth and proof of residence (POR). This however, can be sidelined as UIDAI says "Resident who does not have POI and POA may get enrolled through an Introducer/ Head of Family".

IndiaNews is run by Kartikeya Sharma, who recently bought News X and The Sunday Guardian.
